Unbiased journalism is a relatively novel concept, and I have serious doubts that it’s attainable at all. Without bias that informs a specific interpretation and viewpoint, you could only report the barest of facts – the context you choose to include will inherently be affected by your bias. Data sets may not be fully comprehensive , but they can be used to gauge performance factors like staffing and sales. But the timing of the launch, while the markets are saturated and existing cable networks are actually seeing an uptick in viewership, doesn’t bode well for WGN. However, a more robust set of voices is needed in journalism as the industry shrinks amid years of layoffs, only perpetuated by the pandemic.
